Cresco Labs Debuts New Dispensary in Tamarac, Florida

New Sunnyside location enhances patient access in Broward County

Cresco Labs Debuts New Dispensary in Tamarac, Florida

Cresco Labs has opened its 31st Florida dispensary, a Sunnyside location in Tamarac at 6001 N University Drive, as the company continues expanding in one of the nation's largest medical cannabis markets.

Florida has over 750,000 registered medical marijuana patients, making it the third-largest medical cannabis market in the U.S. after California and Oklahoma. The state does not allow recreational sales.

"Our expansion in Florida is a testament to our commitment to providing quality cannabis products and enhancing patient accessibility," said Charles Bachtell, Cresco Labs CEO.

Florida's Medical Market

The state's medical program, approved by voters in 2016, has grown rapidly. Qualifying conditions include cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, PTSD, ALS, Crohn's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis, among others.

Patients must obtain a physician recommendation and register with the state's medical marijuana use registry. Once approved, they can purchase products from licensed dispensaries like Sunnyside.

The Tamarac location is Cresco's 72nd dispensary nationwide. The company operates in multiple states including Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Massachusetts, though Florida represents one of its largest retail footprints.

Competitive Landscape

Florida's medical cannabis market includes major multi-state operators like Trulieve, which dominates with over 120 locations statewide, as well as Curaleaf, Verano, and AYR Wellness.

The competitive environment has driven innovation in products and services. Dispensaries offer delivery, online ordering, rewards programs, and educational resources to attract and retain patients.

Cresco's Sunnyside brand focuses on customer experience and product quality. The company manufactures many of its own products, giving it control over the supply chain from cultivation through retail.

Market Outlook

Florida voters will decide on a recreational cannabis ballot initiative in 2024. If approved, the market would expand significantly, though existing medical operators would have a head start in serving adult-use customers.

For now, companies like Cresco continue building their medical market presence in anticipation of potential future expansion.
