Several state medical marijuana programs already list certain cardiac conditions as qualifying diagnoses, though evidence remains mixed. The American Heart Association has maintained that insufficient research exists to recommend cannabis for cardiovascular health.

The UCSF team plans expanded studies examining different consumption methods, dosing levels, and longer-term cardiac outcomes. They're also investigating whether specific cannabinoids or terpenes drive the observed effects.

Marcus emphasized that the current findings should not change medical advice around cannabis and heart health. Patients with cardiac conditions should consult physicians before using cannabis, particularly given its known effects on blood pressure and heart rate during acute intoxication.
